MAPS & LOCATION
Arkansas is a southern state in the U.S. bordering the Mississippi River. It's known for its plenty park and wilderness areas, with most part of its terrain encompassing mountains, caves, rivers and hot springs. The Ozarks part in its north-west has hiking trails and limestone caves like the Blanchard Springs Caverns.
The flag of Arkansas state, also referred to as the "Arkansas flag", consists of an outsized blue-bordered diamond or ( white lozenge) with a red field charged.
Both the programs and the workshops provide an overview of the 6 main natural divisions or regions of Arkansas (Ozarks, Ouachitas, Mississippi Alluvial Plain, Arkansas Valley, Coastal Plain, and Crowley's Ridge).
The Strix varia(Barred owl) may be a highly vocal owl it loves giving a loud and resounding ‘hoo-hoo, too-HOO; hoo, hoo, too-HOO,ooo,’ which type of seems like ‘Who, looks, for-you? Who, looks, for-you’?’ …
Black bear with twin cubs Bears are wonderful creatures they don’t hibernate in Arkansas — what they do is that they go into a deep sleep and spend the winter months inside their dens, which is the time cubs are delivered. Giving birth to twins are common, and it has even been seen a bear with triplets near our cabin before. Giving birth to four cubs are very rare.
Bear dens are mostly dug into a hillside in rocky areas, but bears also have their den in large hollow trees.
Bobcats prowl the night (they are more of the night crawlers), and travel miles along their habitual route in search of their food — they are rare to see in the day, you almost never see one in daylight. Like all other cats, the bobcat “directly registers,” this means that its hind paw prints usually fall on top of its front paw prints.
Rocky Mountain bull elk and his harem
The mountain bull elk would have been tiny specs with the wide-angle lens so I frantically waded across the river to get my big lens, but that put me out of sight of the elk.
The animal is scarce to see, it comes around the open when hungry. Arkansas is blessed with wild life.
The Pileated woodpecker is the largest woodpecker in the whole United States, and it is quite a "sight see" seeing one in the deep woods since they are so big! They hole they dig are rectangular shapes in trees to find ants, and the excavations they do can be so broad and deep that they can cause small trees to break into half because of the hole dug in it.
The Raccons often take their food to a stream nearby or pond to wash it carefully before eating it (though the washing they do is not a sign of cleanliness cos they are known to “wash” their food in dirt ).
American bald eagles
American bald eagles survey the landscape from perching tops of dead tree.
Black bear cub
A mother bear will most times use nearby trees as nurseries and send she sends her cubs up the tree to keep them safe while she attends to other business on the ground.
Arkansas have a popular fish game like crappie, catfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill and trout.
